Issue with Custom Hierarchies in BPC Optimized for S4H 1610

Hi Experts,

This is regarding master data in BPC optimized for S4H 1610 (SE1 system). The dimension /ERP/GL_ACCT is a virtual characteristic deriving its master data from S4 functionally, via HANA view RTC_C_GLACCOUNT. This object is seen in BPC web via BW modelling on composite provider or multi provider and adding that as BPC model.

The object is greyed out allowing no changes to the master data, since this being a virtual characteristic. However, when the object is selected, the button “Edit Hierarchies” is enabled. It seems, the system allows custom hierarchies. (Screenshot attached).

Now, on clicking “Edit Hierarchies” and when we try to add a new custom hierarchy directly in S4, as a centrally visible hierarchy, the system does not show up any master data here to be added to this hierarchy. (Screenshot attached). The issue is whether this functionally really works?

Taking a deep dive into this issue and trying the same scenario, with different objects, I observed that there are issues with other objects as well e.g. /ERP/COSTCNTR. However, there is no issue with the virtual characteristic for /ERP/COORDER.

There’s one thing we can infer here, that the custom hierarchies have issues for virtual masters which have compounding characteristics. However, the system allows custom hierarchies for virtual masters with no compounding objects.

This behaviour was observed even with virtual characteristics, using provisional master data approach (

Any information around this issue would be very helpful.

Thanks in advance.
