PowerDesigner Proxy Connection Error ORA-12154

Hi all,

I am trying to install the repository proxy on a server. The repository DB (Oracle 12c) is, however, on a separate server. When I try to connect to the proxy using my PD client, I get the ORA-12154 Error (the repository proxy instance failed to connect to the database)...TNS could not resolve the connnect identifier specified.

I found another SCN discussion on this (Title: PowerDesigner Repository Connection Error ORA-12154 SQLSTATE = 08004), but it doesn't contain the answer I am looking for since my case is slightly different. In my case, the ODBC test is succesful and I can connect to the repository using a direct correction. Connecting via the proxy, however, does not work. I have no idea where to look for the solution, could there be an error in my tnsnames.ora file? The same file works for the direct connection. Or is it a problem in the DB-configuration?

I would very much appreciate any help!

Cheers,

Milan

I found the problem. I made the mistake of only adding the tnsnames.ora to the user environment variables and forgot to add it to the system variables. Therefore the ODBC test on the machine on which the proxy is installed was succesful but when using a the PD client the tnsnames file could not be found.

One easy way to detect the problem is install proxy server on the machine where you installed Powerdesigner client.

Because you can connect to the repository using direct connect, you should not have problem to using proxy server on the same machine.

Then you can compare the settings between two machines and find the problem.
