What is the current field practice for naming Oracle redologs?

I am an Oracle DBA and working with an SAP consultant. We have been discussing redlogs. I am aware of SAP's file directory naming conventions and reasons for it's current names like /u01/oracle/ep1/mirrloga and b etc. I have been working with SAP and Oracle for several years. Is there any reasonable requirement to stay with SAP's naming.

    Hi Chris,

This is kind of default, I don't think SAP has "reason" to let customer keep it.
However since most of SAP customer are using this, why you have requirement to "violate" the naming?
Both customer and SAP colleagues are using default, in case there is any issue, we will locate redo log quickly.

By the way SAP style is like this "/oracle/ep1/mirrloga".

    Best regards,
    James

    Hi Chris,

In fact keeping the standards may save you from going into trouble while using tools like SWPM and BR*Tools. It is supported to use other naming conventions, but I wouldn't recommend it.

    Cheers,

    Thiago
