When we run BBP_GET_STATUS_2 does it generate a log which gives us details of Shopping carts affected by the run? If yes where is the log located.
If not is there any way we can get that information?

Which Log you are referring to here ? Is this related to R/3 back-end system errors or SRM related errors ?
For back-end error logs, the SRM system calls a RFC function call and get the details from there.
Internally sRM stores the log in several tables.. depending on the type of business document used.. Some tables to check are CRMD_ORDERADM_H (Header data), CRM_ORDERADM_I (Item data).
Also check and Look in <b>SLG1</b> transaction.

You can check tha application logs at the schedules at which this report is run. (alg1). also st22 will provide info about any dumps during this run.
Also check the note 1077577. Provides plenty of information regarding all issues concerning bbp_get_status_2.
