Hi Edna,
That is one of the usage.
Others are
--Formula Variables can be used to provide input to exceptions and conditions, like a Top N condition where the user can decide the output for Top 5 or Top 20. and the selected values can be input using the formula variable.
--Also in other places where you want an expernal input from user like some Percentage margin or commision etc for Bonus or Profit Calculation, this kind of entries will be made using Formula Variables -> User Entry kind.
please see this link for an example scenario
Hope this helps.
please let us know if you have a specific scenario.
Thanks,
CK
Enda,
We use formula variables for two things.
1. Budget FX rates that are not in R/3 - BW. We create a formula variable with he yearly rate and then we use this formula variable for any conversions we may need to do.
2. Sometime you may want to convert characteristic numeric or date values to key figures so you can do some formula with them. We create formula variables from the characteristic value and can then use these values for Conditions - Exceptions and any formula that are applicable.
I dont understand the explanation given by KJ @Kamaljeet - I can't understand how characteristic variables could be classed as formula variables.

Gill
