Oracle installation on AIX with existing instances

Hi,

I would like to know if there is a procedure document which can explain the installation of Oracle 9.2 on AIX platform of a host, where there are 3 instances of DB already existing.

Do I need to run 'rootpre.sh' before I execute runinstaller?

What precautions that I need to take care? I am worries if I do any new environment variables setup that may disturb the existing instances of SAP R/3/oracle.

Thanks,

Ramesh.

Ramesh,

Make sure you make changes to /etc/oraInst.loc file in AIX, this file keeps track of the oracle_home and the inventory data.

Also, make sure that there are sufficient system resource available to run the additional instance.

it is better to have for every instance separate ORACLE_HOME and ORACLE_BASE. it means, also separate Inventory for each database.

see also this SAP note beside the SAP note 98252.

21960 - Several instances/systems on one UNIX computer

You need to execute rootpre.sh once per host.
