BCS Transport

Hi Experts,

I need to transport the company hierarchy and task hierarchy from development to Quality server.

In company the Consolidation Unit and Consolidation group is transported sucessfully. But the hierarchy transport went sucessfully, but in the quality server the hierarchy is not visible in the same period of transport.

Also for task hierarchy task and task group and hierarchy was transported sequentially and went thru sucessful. But the task hierarchy is not seen in quality server.

Hi,

The question is why the hierarchy is not seen in the quality server inspite of sucessful transport.

In the target system for BCS transports of master data it is necessary to activate the BW replication. In UCWB, open the Tools view to do this.

Since the replication was not activated and data did not synchronize you can use program UGMDSYNC for master data and UGMDSY20 for master data hierarchies.

Hi,

I tried this. The trsansport is not sucessful still.

Any hint will be appreciated.

Hi Mani,

There are several ways of creating transport requests in SEM-BCS.

During transporting of hierarchical structures (especially of hierarchy of tasks in the monitor) I prefer useing the following way:

Consolidation monitor -> Task Hierarchy, right click - Transport. In the open right frame check all options in 'Objects to be transported' subframe, especially important to do it for the first 2 options. The other options are at your discretion.

The other ways (using of automatically created transport request or right-click-transport on the tasks hierarchy itself ) very often didn't transport the hierarchy of tasks at all (or properly). It's especially true in case if you make modifications to the tasks hierarchy and want to transport them.

Hope this helps.

Hi ,

Thanks for the information.

I have done the transport with these steps only earlier. All my transports are sucessful execpt the hierarchy.

But somehow the hierarchy does not appear. One more information is we have time dependant consolidation unit. Is there any other thing to take care in this cases.

Hi Many,

All my transports are sucessful execpt the hierarchy.

This your statement might be treated in two ways:

1. ALL transport were sucessfull, but transport of hierarchical structure doesn't look like has any effect (hieararchy of tasks doesn't appear in monitor);

2) ALL transport except transport of hierarchical structure were sucessfull. Transport of hierarchical structure were not sucessfull, hieararchy of tasks doesn't appear in monitor.

Which one is true?

And when you are talking about time-dependent cons units, do you mean that the UNITS HIERARCHY is time-dependent?

This dependentness may come in play in case of assignment task - method is made dependent on ConsUnit.

Do you have such assignments?

To judge either the settings were transported properly, look at the tasks hierarchy in the Quality Workbench. The hierarchy should be seen there already. Go through the tasks and see if they have methods assigned.

Remember that assigned to documents type number ranges are not transported automatically. It also may play its role.

After carefull examination of tasks hierarchy/tasks/methods/docs type you should have a clue what exactly was transported and what - is not.

And pay attention to the trivial things: in the Q you are working in the same version, fiscal year and posting period as in Dev.

Hope this helps.

Hi Eugune,

Thanks for the information.

I have issue with both hierarchy:

Consolidation Unit Hierarchy is transported with out error from development server , but cannot see it in the form of hierarchy in the target system.

As far as Task hierarchy, the document number range is transported along with document type, but in the target system the document number ranges are not visible, Do it mean we have to manually recreate the document number in target system after the transport?

Hi Mani,

Abt number range transport see here:

Abt hierarchies transport, as I said you may use two ways of creation of transport requests (from a context menu) in two left subframes. Try both. Though, I always got the hierarchies transported properly if I ticked all four options of Objects to be transported:

- Values

- Hierarchy Structure

- Top node

- Text Node

By default only the first option is checked.

Are you sure that you created the transport request as I described earlier?

Eugene

I was having trouble transporting changes to the Task Hierarchy - I then followed your instruction below and it worked - so thanks.

"Consolidation monitor -> Task Hierarchy, right click - Transport. In the open right frame check all options in 'Objects to be transported' subframe, especially important to do it for the first 2 options. The other options are at your discretion.

"

I also had similar issues. My transports will alsways be successful but it never went as a hierarchy. Some times it goes to the QA or PRD system as un assigned values and we need to open the system to assign it to the top node from the bottom of the screen since I did not find anyother ways to it.Transporting the hierarchy is tricky issue and never a smooth issue.

Thanks for sharing your experience.

Eugune is confident it will work with his steps. So I have whole bunch of transport to be done in next few days and I will try it in this context.

I also followed exactly what Eugene suggested. Though I know it should work and has worked it never worked for me. So I used the last resort of opening up the QA and PRD and assigned it manually. All the best.
