CUSTOMER EXIT IN FILTER FOR MONTH/YEAR

Hi experts,

I have a scenario where i need to give a query for creating dashboard.

My requirement is like the customer will select a month (ex:09.2016) and the data should come from 01.2016 - 09.2016. and if he selects 09.2015 data should come from 01.2015 - 09.2015. This should be given as a filter.

Please provide me with a solution. Can it be done using customer exit or using normal filter. If yes please provide the codes too. Please its urgent
