Enable password unlock and reset option sap portal

Hello Team,

Our customer wants to enable self service portal for resetting sap portal password. We have gone through some sap documents and discussions, found it is possible for NW 7.3 and higher(Our portal is 7.4).As per my understanding it is possible when we use Java as our UME.

But my concern is that we have ABAP UME for our portal and the question is can we do the same configuration and enable password reset option with abap ume?

Need your support on this.

When the UME datasource is on AS ABAP, then these passwords related parameters should be configured there. Please refer to this guide:

Profile Parameters for Logon and Password (Login Parameters)

In case, it is defined any password related policies on the AS Java, these policies have to be synchronized with the password policies defined on the back-end - AS ABAP

Integration of the UME Security Policy With External Data Sources

    • EP-UME-reset-password scenario might be guaranteed only for the AS Java with database_only data source. This is, because the default AS ABAP security policies will be applied and they might collide with the one you have defined in the EP UME.

The thing is - it would not be noticed till the EP UME reset is used. Then it will try to reset the password and a call will be sent to the AS ABAP. However, it is not guaranteed the AS ABAP will handle it smoothly. Please make certain the password policies are the same on both external reset application and on the backend - AS ABAP .

In case, you do not have further question, I would appreciate if you mark this thread as answered.
