Hi,
The major functionality of project planning board is acting as Gantt Chart in SAP, where scheduling/resource planing/costing/budgeting etc will take place. Project Planning Board performs work same as Project Builder. Another important function is simulation version will be done in PPB. From working point of Project Planning Board in most of the cases are used for display purpose.
Hope this will help you.

With the project planning board,
1. You obtain an overview about the hierarchy and progress of your project
2. You can see interrelationships in the organization and the schedule.
3. You can access all the important data like Calculate costs, Plan and check dates, Plan and schedule resources, Define and distribute work, Level capacities, Make assignments in your project
4. Simulate changes
5. Branch to further graphics, for instance network structure graphic, hierarchy graphic etc.
6. Branch to further planning boards in capacity planning
7. Branch to Costs and capacity reports in the Project Information System
8. Call up logs and additional overviews (capacity, costs/revenues, component, and order overviews)
Since the data like costs, dates and resources of the project differs there is benefit even where projects are of repetitive type.
