Hello all,

I have requirement in which i have to put Customer no. and Sold partner number to include in Filter as well as in Drill down i.e. free characteristics.

Now i have to exclude certain values from both of those.

Well for this i created Selection option Variable.

But then

HOW SHOULD I EXCLUDE CERTAIN VALUES for Variable = Selection Option for this two Characteristics.

Hi,

In the variable screen, click on the yellow arrow to the right of the variable entry boxes. Here can you put the value for exclusion in the Red tabs, and those to be included in the green ones.

You cannot put the same char in the filter and free chars area.

Hope this helps...

Hello Bhanu

I tried putting around 4-5 characteristics in Filter Area as well as Free characteristics

It didnot gave me a error.

So does this mean i am going wrong somewhere.

PLus for e.g. there is Characteristic A

It has values

aa,bb,cc,dd,ee,ff

now i included Characteristic A in Filter as well as Free characteristic.

IS THIS WRONG STEP?

Secondly,

I want that user has option to select single value, interval value, etc.

So i created SELECTION OPTION variable for Characteristic A.

Now How should i exclude value of 'ff' from Characteristic A as user does not want to see this..

Variable select screen means :

When i right click Characteristic A to Restrict it ..The screen that comes is it.

Hi,

Are you using the BW 3.5 query designer or 7.0?

"Variable select screen means :

When i right click Characteristic A to Restrict it ..The screen that comes is it. ": This is refered to as the Selection Dialog Box (please try to use correct names of objects to avoid confusion). Here you can pull 'ff' in the right hand side box (Selection), right click and choose Exclude. If will get a red icon with = sign.

Hope this helps...

Thanks for reply

I am using Bi 7.0

I understood what you are trying to convey .

In Selection Dialog Box, if i pull 'ff' in the right hand side box and if i exclude it..

That is understoodable.

But over there i also have Selection option Variable for Characteristics A.

So i try to run the query It does not give me any output.

If i include "ff " along with Selection option Variable then i am able to run the query.

So Why does this happens

As per the requirement i have to have the Selection option variable for Characterstic A

Please advise

Okay, but I am trying to understand: If you are providing the selection option variable, then the user can input what they want to see. Only those values will come in the report, if they dont want 'ff' then they will not put it in the variable. To have this kind of set up, i.e. variable + restriction by exclusion you may need to do a user exit variable...

Thanks Bhanu ,

I will try to search in forums for user exit variable questions .

By that time can you shed some more light on how to do user exit variable and wat can be the best approach and steps.
