Oracle upgrade from v9.2 to 10g on a R/3 4.0B system

Hi,

Does any one have experienced/thoughts on the upgrade of Oracle DB from 9.2 to 10.2 with R/3 4.0B.

SAP Note 832893 confirms that minimum kernel patch level for 4.0B should be #996 or higher. But Oracle upgrade guide from http://help.sap.com just refers procedure only from R/3 4.6C on wards.

Regards,

Ramesh.

Check

http://service.sap.com/instguides

--> Other documentation

--> Database upgrades

--> Oracle

Download there (according to your platform)

Upgrade to Oracle Database 10g Release 2 (10.2): UNIX

Upgrade to Oracle Database 10g Release 2 (10.2): Windows

This is a step-by-step document telling you, which patches you need to apply, how you do the upgrade and what you need to take care of.

I have already gone through it but under SAP system prerequisites it starts from 46B onwards.

My query is without upgrading SAP, would it be possible just to do the only Database upgrade from 9.2 to 10.2.

Thanks,

Ramesh.

According to 940794 - Releasing Oracle 10.2 versions for older SAP versions, it´s not supported.

The note 832893 is only relevant, if you UPGRADE so the check in the database library (dboraslib.*) will be able to start the system with 10g.

4.0B is LONG out of maintenance and I wonder, if you would be able to install 10g on operating systems, that are supported for 4.0B.

So answer to your question is: No, it´s not supported to run Oracle 10g under R/3 4.0B unless you prepare an upgrade.

Hi Markus,

you are right and exactly this is described in:

<a href="https://service.sap.com/sap/support/notes/720886">note 720886</a> and with a little more detail in <a href="https://service.sap.com/sap/support/notes/960769">note 960769</a>

regards

Peter
