The future of SAP Basis is very promising. Much like the other SAP jobs, businesses need a SAP Basis Administrator to keep their SAP investment running. Although unlike with the functional consultants like FICO, MM, SD where companies can get as many as they want to hire, a company may only hire or need a handful of Basis experts. The competition is growing but specialization is always giving us enough room to market the profession. With so many technology phasing out and newer versions being released, upgrades are done and thus pushes the demand for SAP Basis upward. It is a good news!
System Administration is an important skill for SAP Basis. The logic is the same but you may need some basic SAP education or tutorial to be able to know what parameters are to be checked and maintained. Database and Operating System Administration is also a prerequisite. Moreso, all is learned when you get to sit on your first day as a SAP Basis.
