How to configure Web Dispatcher to use 3rd party's recommended health check URL?

Hi Experts,

I have an SAP Web Dispatcher which I'm using to load balance requests going into a 3rd party (non-SAP) system. The 3rd party system guide says I can "configure URL http://<server address>/SXP/IsAlive.aspx in the load balancer in order to monitor the health of the 3rd party application server".

How would I go about configuring this in the SAP Web Dispatcher?

my URL with the healthcheck is: "http://<server address>/SXP/IsAlive.aspx"

Is there a parameter to which I would add this URL?

Appreciate your help - this is very urgent!!! Will award points to the correct answer.

Best regards,

Esteban

Hello Esteban,

Set the parameter "wdisp/ping_extsrv_url = /SXP/IsAlive.aspx".

Refer to this SAP Help page.

Best regards,

Isaías

Hi Isaias - thanks for your reply. when I enter the parameter like this messages seem to stop flowing through the web dispatcher. I had to comment it out because it was causing issues. On the disp_webdisp logs no error logs come up on this parameter when I bring it up.

Hello Esteban,

Please set the parameter "rdisp/TRACE = 2" at the Web Dispatcher profile and restart it.

Then, wait for about 1 minute and simulate the issue.

Stop the Web Dispatcher and save a copy of:

  1. The profile used during the testing;
  2. The "dev_webdisp" and "dev_webdisp.old" trace files.

You can then remove the parameter "rdisp/TRACE" and start the Web Dispatcher again.

Compress ("zip") the files from item #1 and #2 and update this question, attaching the compressed file.

We can then analyze the trace to see what is happening.

Best regards,

Isaías
