archiving means storing idocs by using tcode SARA u can archive idoc for further reference

filtering means u r filtering data which is not necessary to the terget system

by using BD56 u can filter segments in particular idoc

in some cases it is not possible to filter mandatory segments

in that case u have to reduction of message type tcode BD53
