Among the methods of data transfer through BDC, direct input method is the one that is used, especially in case of transferring large amount of data. In order to enhance the batch input procedure, the system offers you with the direct input technique.

There is a distinction between the batch input technique and this technique. Unlike batch input technique, this technique does not create sessions. Instead, it stores the data directly. Moreover, it does not process screens. The data has to be entered directly into the corresponding database tables. The system calls a number of function modules which execute necessary checks, if any required. In the case of errors, the direct input technique has a facility to restart the entire mechanism. However, if you want to restart the entire mechanism in case you faced an error, then direct input programs must be executed in the background.

lsmw will generally used by an functional consultant because there we don't need to write code only 14 steps so it's easy rather than bdc but as for as requirement we use those but developer's will use bdc rather than lsmw.

    hi,

LSMW requires no coding where as BDC requires some coding. LSMW is purely used by functional people for transferring data from r/2 to r/3 or in r/3 itself.

lsmw used ofr small amount of data only.

bdc is used for uploading data from legacy systems to r/3. this is done purely by technical people. bdc for huge volume of data.

    if helpful reward some points.

    with regards,

    Suresh Aluri.
