Good morning,
I have searched through SAP Apps help and am unable to find anything on how to manage Prototypes for production.
can anyone else pass on information how they have tackled this issue?
Kind regards,
Guy.
One logical solution
Maintain Dummy Master Data, for example Actual material is "Motor1" the dummy number will be "Motor1_PT", like wise
Keep record of all the things in a excel file stating MOTOR1=MOTOR1_PT
similarly all the master data
Now you can able to carry out all the Business Process steops steps like GR,GI,Repetitive manufacturing etc
Once the Prototype is OK after testing and ready for production i think at the time you can create the original master datas in the system
Note:You can Explore Engineering ,Engineering change management , Project order etc for standard solution
thanks

We are using Repetitive Manufacturing so do not have the joys of Production/Process Orders :o(

Good morning,
We want to introduce Prototype products into the Manufacturing enviroment, the problem is, how can this be done, or is there a specific process to follow?
We manufacture Prototypes on a regular basis but we do not have the time to go through all of the master data set-up that is required for all of our normal products.
Kind regards,
Guy.

Guy,
Generally I have worked with clients where product development was involved. All that they do is,
1. Create a materail master for the new product,
2. Create a required Internal Order based on product grouping. This is basically used as settlement reciever in the production/process order.
3. Create a process order without material CO07/CORO, they add this new product with negative quantity and other goods which are consumed in positive qty to the component list of the order, by this they get Bi-Product GR using MB1A transaction with 531 movement type and goods are issued with 261 movement type.
4. Process order get periodically settled to Internal Order.
5. Once the product is developed and estabilished they create all other master data like BOM/Routing and perform normal process.
Hope i have given a broader overview on what is possible...for prototype production.

Prasobh
Hi Guy,
Can you please explain more about what type of production prototyping you requried?
is it regarding Production Module or Production Server.
For Production scenarios prototyping there are some scenarios on IDES you just go through following link
