Hello all,

I have a report which is created on cube which is using nearly 15-20 attributes ( of different Characterstics )

My question is ....

which is the best way of showing data in report.

i.e keeping it as Display Attributes and populating it in cube update rules using Master data attribute option - with this there might be little space issue

making it as navigational attribute and using them in reports - with this there might be performance issue.

sugget me the best option.

According to me i will go with first option.

Do the values of these atrribute change?

And in the reports do you want to save the original value or do they have to change too.?

In your first option, if an attribute value changes, the existing values in the dimension of the cube will not change.

Just an other point of view.

it depends upon your reporting requirment.... if client what to drill down the ???

no doubt about performance issues are their ...

but there r strong points regarding navi attr

Deactivation of navigational attributes is not possible

Reporting possibilities differ depending on whether you define a dependent attribute as a characteristic, a navigational attribute or a node of an external hierarchy, because the locations offer different time scenarios.

Thus the reporting needs investigated during the blueprint phase of the project normally define the location of a dependent attribute.

When designing the same parent attribute as a characteristic in a dimension table (such as historical truth) and as an navigational attribute in a master data table (all other scenarios) remember that in a BI data model the navigational attribute should have a different name from its name in the InfoObject definition to avoid misunderstandings. Otherwise the same name would be repeated twice in the BEx Query Designer.
