    Certain programs or reports or transactions can only be run in background (that means not online) or in Batch (thats a lot of transactions at once) for example the Depreciation Run (AFAB :RAPOST2000) can only be run in Background, and when you execute this program, a JOB is created which you will need to go an execute (if not set to run immediately).

    If for example you were loading lots of data like data migration, you will create a BATCH job (via LSMW or Custom program )and then execute this Job.

    This is mainly to reduce online processing of large amounts of data so as not to slow the system down.

    SM 37 to check list of jobs defined and to release

    SM35 to check list of Batch jobs and execute
