Hi,

If you think of just a look and feel you will never think that a portal is different from a web page. Well portal is much more than just a web page. Portal provides a single point access to all your data in organised manner that a web page cant. portal provides you a capability of developing various application ans administrating them as well.It provides roles base secure access, also its KM and collaboration capabilities provides you the ability to integrate mail client any many other application on portal. Designing an application on portal is much more sophisticated and easier to maintain. The most imp point is it provides strong support to SAP R/3 that makes R/3 application easy to integrate.

Hope this helps,

Ameya

Hi There

There's a lot of Diference Between a Portal and a Web Page.

Web Page is a very Basic Element of internet and can be of pure HTML

or a Based on Dynamic Server Side Technology like JSP or ASP or ASP.NET .

so Web Page is the Basic Entity which we see on the internet.

Coming to Portal . It offers Lot of Services like User Management,

Standard Tools for Portal Content Creation and Management,

Inbuilt Security , Tools for Collaborartion etc.

Portal will Host the Web Pages.

one example of portal is SAP Enterprise Portal.

i.e SDN.

Another Example is Microsoft;s Dot NET Nuke.

Cheers !
