Would those who recommended that not having BIQ is OK to implement BI educate us on how this can be possible with all the chaos that comes with coordinating all the activities?
We have an incident where we are at this time doing the validation on BID. There are some issues with the users wanting to make immediate changes to the InfoProvider by wanting to activate the key figures from the URs to see if the standard extractor provides the required data that they want to use as one of the key figures. We have concluded that somehow the users went to the system and activated the business content for these URs. Now the URs are reverted back to its original state. We had applied some code to the routines for these URs.
We are in the middle of the validation, and there is still data in the InfoProvider to continue with the validation of the Init data, but the delta has not yet been validated. Since there is no BIQ system to transport and lock away the most recent changes, we now have to reapply the code to the URs when the time comes to do the validation of the delta data. We are somehow ambivalent about this because then the Init data would have already been tested and the code that will be reapplied to the URs to do the delta may not have been used to validate the Init data thoroughly.
Here are some of the issues that BIQ can come into this scenario and can help resolve some chaos:
1. The transports can be created to be transported to BIQ. They can be used for re-transporting to revert back to any stage of the validation that has been completed so far.
2. The transports can be pushed over to BIP once it is ready. No time is required to ensure all the things tested are in placed to move from BID to BIP. All the change requests to fix any errors according to the results of the validation of all the phases are recorded in the transports.
3. The BIQ system can be locked to prevent users from activating business contents that will cause the Last changed by to IMPACT and Responsible to SAP.
4. The users want to add this and that to the InfoProvider to see some reporting results immediately if it will be possible. Since validation is in process in BID, nothing can be changed at this time, but if there was a BIQ system, the development can begin on BID at the same time the users are validating on BIQ.
5. Data can be deleted and reloaded many times as required on BID to perform proof of concept by changing the existing SAP provided model.
6. Process chains can be created and tested during the validation process. Testing process chains thoroughly requires deleting and reloading. Whats wrong with performing parallel tasks if you have the BIQ system for users validation and BID for other development and experimentation? It is inefficient to perform sequential tasks by waiting until the validation is completed to do other activities.
For those of you who recommended that no BIQ is required, and you know who you are, would you educate us as to how we can go round about way of resolving these issues?
