Number of Work Processes

Hi All,

We have procured a new application server and had a few queries regarding configuration of optimum no. of work processes.

1) Is there a standard formula to calculate maximum no. of WPs that can

be configured to an instance, depending on RAM & CPU. I know about RAM/256 and 5 times no. of CPUs, however would help to know if no of CPUs & clock speed can also be included in the calculations.

2) Our old server has 4GB RAM & 2 CPUs and our new app server also has

4 GB RAM & 1 dual core but with a higher clock speed. So effectively

the new server has same amount of RAM & CPU but the latest ones. Can I

configure more no. of work processes to our new server as compared to

the old one.

3) What is the restriction on max. no. of WPs due to OS type (32 bit or 64 bit).

SAP Version: R/3 4.7 EE

Oracle: 9.2.0.7

Heterogeneous landscape: WIN 2003 & AIX 5.3

I have referred note nos. 9942 & 39412. Pls suggest on the above 2

queries and additional reading, if any.

Regards,
