How to use variant configuration for sales when BOM components are supplied from different plants

I need to have a VC BOM that sources material from different plants. I would then have delivery groups and different deliveries by plant.

The VC BOM must be from one plant and does not allow me to change the delivery groups and source plants for the components in the sales order. Can someone advise?

Thank you very for your assistance.

The note seems to imply that changes to the BOM are limited in Sales Order processing. However, for a material BOM, the components may be delivered from another plant. Would you happen to know how the components can be set to deliver from different plants when the BOM is exploded? That is the main problem I have.
