How to assign dynamic Default Value for HANA Variable

I need to be able to assign a default value for a VARIABLE in a calculation view that will change every period, and is not a standard date field (custom fiscal period calendar field).

We require a Variable as opposed to an Input parameter to allow for range, multi-select, etc.

I have tried using the default value of type EXPRESSION to reference another IP (using $$IP_NAME$$, but this doesn't work. Any workarounds to defaulting a range type prompt that changes?
