connection brakes between xMII PI UDS and PI(datasource)

Hi,

We have installed the xMII PI UDS on the xMII server. We then configured the connection between the xMII UDS and the datasource (PI). For this kind of configuration -

Question:

1) When the connection between the xMII UDS and PI brakes/disconnects (due to say some power outage), will xMII UDS automatically reestablish the connection? Could we be assured of this?

2) The plant do not want to restart the UDS manually. So could we design that the UDS can start up automatically when PI comes up.

This is required especially since if UDS is down on a weekend (when no body is around), they do not want to lose data when PI is up again due to lost connections between UDS and PI

Appreciate any guidance. Thanks.

    Srinivasan,

The UDS is set to run as a service, so having your service instance set to be Automatic should allow the plant not to have to start the UDS manually. Check this in the Services Control Panel.

When a UDS is created you do have the option to add a service dependency, but since the UDS is not on the actual PI server there is no way to tie the UDS directly to PI.

The UDS also has built in Retry options (all start with AutoRetry...), so check the UDS help for more info on these.

Why would they lose data if there was a lost connection between the UDS and PI, or do you simply mean that they would be unable to query PI data?

    Regards,

    Jeremy

    • Go into the UDS Admin and press the + icon to add a new instance and observe the bottom field called: Dependencies (optional). If you put the service name for something like 'ServletExec-xMII' then it would have a standard windows service dependency that would not allow the UDS instance to start until xMII was running. Check the UDS help for more info.
