BOM usage for Purchasing of materials only

HI Experts,

1. I need to be able to create a second set of BOM that will be used for Raw material planning & purchasing (as opposed to our current BOM with usage 1 - production, which is rather for production & costing - and generates incorrect material Purchase Requisitions).

Question 1 : Can I use the BOM usage 2 - Engineering / Design or shall I get a new BOM usage created for my "Planning BOM"? If must create new one, how to set it up ?

2. The demand will be inserted via Independent requirements in Long Term Planning, at both FERT & HALB level.

As we are in a make-to-forecast business model, I would like my independent requirements to be exploded in MRP through the BOM with Planning usage (2 or new one). And to have the BOM with usage 1 being used only for process orders.

Question 2 : Is this possible ? if yes, how to set this up ?

Hello Julie

I would suggest you to create a new BOM usage and define in customizing (transaction OS20) for which purposes it can be used.

You can create different production versions for each BOM and, in the independent requirements maintenance, you can refer to the desired production version, in order to choose a specific BOM.
