Default domain (SCOT - Settings - Default domain)

Dear SAP gurus,

I just wonder if we can enter any domain name in the Default domain (SCOT - Settings - Default Domain).

I knew that if a user does not have email address entered in SU01, when he sends email out from SAP, SAP would generate the e-mail address by concatinating his username and the default domain.

Example:

If username is sapuser and default domain entered in sapdomain.com, so the e-mail address would become sapuser@sapdomain.com.

Now, if sapuser sends email out from SAP to external, say, yahoouser@yahoo.com, yahoouser can receive the e-mail. However, yahoouser cannot reply sapuser's email.

Does this mean that we need public domain (internet domain) to get external user to reply back sapuser's e-mail?

Hi,

It is always better to use the company domain name in the default domain,

so that as you said the yahoo user can reply to that mail.

Thank you for your reply, Sapient.

If we do not have a Microsoft Exchange server, but we subscribe email hosting service from third-party vendor, can we use email hosting server for INBOUND email to SAP? In SAP Note 455140, some thing needs to be configured in the email server itself. If we are having an Exchange Server, yes we can configure the Exchange Server, if we are using email hosting server, what can be done to enable the INBOUND email?

I did test using e-mail hosting server for OUTBOUND email from SAP to external, it only goes to the e-mail address which have the same domain with the e-mail hosting server. E.g.:

email hosting server: mail.mailhosting.com

recipient : user@mailhosting.com -> outbound mail from SAP to this user success

recipient: user@yahoo.com -

> outbound mail from SAP to this user failed

What needs to be done in order to get OUTBOUND mail goes to external user regardless mail hosting server domain?

Thank you.

Hi QT,

Check in SCOT if there is a restriction on the e-mail domains an e-mail can be send to.
