Personas3 for ME51N merging tabs

My requirement is to bring various fields from various item details tabs in ME51N and prepare an area beside the items table available for user input.

This never seem to happen.

Kindly suggest how this can be achieved.

This is a rather vague description... what do you mean by "This never seem to happen"?

Maybe you have a problem with required fields that interrupt tab merging?

      Hi Tamas,

      Describing now clearly.

I have picked the fields from each tab in ME51N item details 'Material Data', 'Quantities/Dates', and so on. Placed all these fields on the right side in the work area. Please check the screen snip1.

When I run the tcode, a) I don't see any of those details. This is ok. 2) When I enter a line item, only the details that are moved from material data tab are visible. But the details that are moved from 'Quantities/Dates' tab are still not visible. Plz check the SNIP2.

      3. Now when I click the 'Quantities/Dates' the rest of the details are also visible. Please check SNIP3.

Expectation is: Once a line item is entered, all the details taken from several tabs should be visible as we see in the SNIP3.

I am also thinking whether that functionality should be kept intact to ensure consistency of the transaction and also customer expectation. Kindly share your suggestions.

This situation is a consequence of how tab merging works, and it is indeed related to required fields.

You must enter certain data originating from the first tab to see the fields from the second tab. The material number is probably set up as a required field, so if you leave that empty, you get an error message, instructing you to enter it. The tab merging logic, which has to click across the tabs you are merging, will fail in this case and stop. Until you populate the required fields in the first tab, it will not go to the others, resulting in the fields not showing up.

There is not much you can do to change this behavior... technically speaking, those fields still belong to their originating location, so any background logic linked to them will be executed. There could be some tricks that you may be able to employ here, but it's not the most straightforward... for example, you can have custom fields, added exactly at the same place where the merged fields would go, and the standard fields will have a higher Z-index, so they'd cover these once they appear. If you also want to allow input in these custom fields, you'd have to script the action moving their values into the standard fields, perhaps onEnter... it can get a bit messy.
