Is there a direct upgrade path from XI 3.1 SP2 or SP3(without applying SP7) to SAP BO BI 4.2 SP4 ?

Hi Experts,

Although, it is mentioned in pattern books and other presentations that there is a direct upgrade path from XI 3.1 to BI 4.2, I am interested in knowing if it is mandatory to apply the patch SP7 to the XI 3.1 SP2 or SP3 before migrating\upgrading to BI 4.2 SP4? I had read an year back that it is mandatory to apply the SP7 patch otherwise there is no direct upgrade path to 4.2. But I am not finding the document to present as a fact or evidence.

If by direct upgrade you mean simple one step UMT process of migration of content - then yes, Xi3.1 Sp2 is enough and no need to goto Sp7 first.

As stated with many blogs, you do NOT need to upgrade to SP7 for XI 3.1 to use the UMT. If you have SP7 it recommanded but NOT mandotory. The min requirements are XI 3.1 SP2 or better, see below

There shouldn't be, since you are actually migrating from 3.1 to 4.2.

SAP does not recommend that you upgrade your existing 3.1 to 4.2 since the 4.x is having some whole other hardware requirements.

So the basic recommended way (in short terms) is to build a new 4.2 platform and then use UMT to move the content from the old 3.1, and that should not require SP7 to do so.
