We actually learned from the SAP Community point system.

Remember, you used to get points just for logging in, points just for posting.

Here at least you have to convince someone to give you points.

That's yet another "system" that would get exploited. Say I didn't like you or you were leading me in points or whatever....I just have myself (and many co-workers....or just my other alias accounts) and we all mark EVERY question you post as "not a question"....bingo...you're out of the game!

That is true, but I think there are more people intent on increasing their own points than influencing other people's points, there's just nothing to gain there I think.

But the issue remains, there is no foolproof system, but there a lot of ways to make cheating harder.

And about your suggestion of dumping the points system altogether : that would be too much like giving in to the cheaters

I think this is a bit of a paranoid view of the SDN.

I think that Dries suggestion works on a number of levels. Two major problems on SDN are members asking inappropriate questions and greedy members without integrity prepared to answer them. This would seem to combat both.

I agree it will not stop people with personal vendettas to wage but hopefully this is a rarity, or am I being naive?

Not trying to be paranoid.....That was just an example. My point it that if you just put another "voting" type of system on top of another already broken one, it won't do much good....it will get just as abused. I guess because I am on many other forums (most all non-technical/non-formal/etc..for example, PC gaming, online gaming, skateboarding, fitness, etc. forums) that I see a LOT of how these systems get abused.

Then by-pass the intermediaries and bring your supplications to the gods directly. My understanding is that there will be a "meet the VP" session in <a href="https://wiki.sdn.sap.com/wiki/display/Community/CommunityDayLasVegasOctober+1st">Community Day</a>. And if you aren't going yourself, make sure that someone who represents your opinions does. But if you don't like dealing with the robed ones, come yourselves.

Hi Suresh, great to back from hols.

As I have stated before, Can the points system. The whole point of the fora is to share pain, experience and knowledge as a community and this is a gift that gives back. Over the time I have been contributing, I would say that I have learned as much as I have shared and this is the true reward of the whole sdn thing.

The points hunting, and the strategies used to gain 'soft' points, does detract from the experience. But there are still enough curly (or challenging) questions to encourage us to ignore the dross.

But as I have been on holidays for a month or two, I reserve the right to get grumpy about this issue at a later date.

Please do not be discouraged. This community network is used for collaboration purpose and quite frequently a lot of people either forgot or do not know how to award points. I do not think it's a matter of rudeness, to be frank. Anyhow we are helping each other out here in the SAP world, and what beats the good feeling of helping a fella SAPer?

If you are pretty sure that your friends had keyed in your email in the registration page, then you can contact sdn@sap.com (or is it sapnetwork@sap.com?) for help. Either that or that there is a delay in the processing since activity management in this environment can be pretty daunting for the administrators.

Referal points always tike some time, but don't worry I 'm sure they will be awarded.

If you give an answer and people don't assign points, that can have severeal reasons : they are lazy, they only care about themselves, they didn't read the answer yet, they are still busy finding out if the answer is the one they needed, etc.

I can't speak for everyone here, but here's some tips that I think would get you more points :

-Try to use understandable english : full sentences, not 'u' but you, not 'r' but are.

-Avoid things like 'points pleeeeeeezzzz '

-Avoid quoting help documents, people don't need the forums for that.

This will make sure that I will give points if you give me a usefull answer. I can't speak for the rest of SDN.

SDN is a forum for collaboration of SAP customers.

If you can contribute to the THING and help other people, then do this.

If you post just to get points, then leave it.

Do not complain that many users do not give points any more - and do not hunt for it.

My opinion about poinst :

The point system is killing these forums.

There is now much more noise than information.

Without points there would be no points hunters.

Answer to questions if you want to help, not to get a tshirt...

Olivier : you have a point, (pun intended).

But I still think the point system is a good way to reward contributers.

Maybe if there was also a way to mark questions as 'noise' so that the points generated by these questions don't count, the noise would go away.

If every post had, for example, a button saying 'This is not a valid question', and when a certain number of users pushes the button, no points could be awarded for that question. That might stop the 'noise', and still allow a way for contributers to be awarded for their contributions.

But that's just my 2 cents, a lot of similar suggestions are done here in the past.

I have read a lot of suggestions about stopping the noise but this seems by far the best. It requires little effort and would soon deter people from posting ridiculous questions. I hope someone follows up your idea.

If it helped, I can reuse the answer in other posts, if not I can learn from it, maybe someone esle gave a correct answer?

If I do not receive any points, so what? I cannot eat them.

Some guys really apply points after 6 month

By the way: Giving points for an anwer that does not help at all should be avoided as well.
