what is business warehousing ?what is data warehousing ? what is the difference between bw and dw (give me the answer interview point of view)
Hello Rama
DW: Its a Warehouse for data...yes data is managed consolidated, harmonized, loaded in structured way,analyzed..but treated as data....
Bw: It is also an data warehouse but the way it stores data, the business logic it provides in term of standard contents makes it more closer to business...basically the main intention of companies are now a days is to minimize the gap between Technology and business...An end user can execute the queries, maintain basic transactions, can do the transaction data posting in the BW/R3system...but in DW you require some dedicated technician to get the work done.....for example the companies where traditional data base are used(oracle,sybase,redbric...) they have DW resources to execut(SQL queries...forget about the Oracle apps...lots of enhancement..that is based on BI model) the financial statistics which is not a good thing from business perspective....
In BW you rarely talk about data....see you have
infoObject( based on smallest business unit or KPI)
ODS Operational data store ( data which is relevant to business on which certain operation can be performed to analyze business closely and decision making)
Infosource...infoCube...infoProvider....infoSet
BW is designed after in depth research on different business process/architecture/model....of more than 800 companies and included the generic business process in terms of technology...
Hope it will help
Thanks

Hi,
DW is DataWareouse: a datawarehouse is a system use to store data (usually huuge systems). A DW can offer more or less functionalities Extraction, Transofrmations, Loading, reporting.... but can also be a simple database system.
BW is meant for Business Information Warehouse which is the datawarehouse solution edited by SAP. BW offers ETL, reporting and more functionalities within the area of Business Intelligence.
hope this helps...
Olivier.
