Search is PECULIAR

I noticed that when searching the number of results is always between 200 to 300 or so, never than 500.

I would imagine that as time goes by, more and more members post, the number of results from search should be greater than 300, 500 or so.

Has anyone come across this and noticed the same?

I think there is something not quite right about the search results.
