Bar Code scanner Integration with SAP Byd

I have a queries on integrating bar code scanner with business by design system on PGI, PGR and production as well.

Do we have any documents on pre-requisite or steps to do the configuration for integrating bar code with Byd system .Please guide us . Thanks in advance.

Configuration: Bar Code Type UCC/EAN 128

Overview

This document contains details and instructions regarding configuration settings. Such settings are normally performed by an administrator. If you do not have the required authorization, contact an administrator.

To find this activity, go to the --> Business Configuration --> Implementation Projects view. Select your implementation project and click Open Activity List. Select the Fine-Tune phase, then select the activity from the activity list.

In order to decode and encode bar codes, the system needs a repository of bar code standards identifying their mapping to the application fields in this system. To facilitate this, the system provides you with two UCC/EAN 128 templates to use as the standard format for bar code decoding and encoding.

Using the Bar Code Type UCC/EAN 128 activity, you can modify some attributes of each application identifier (AI) according to your business needs. For example, you can change the length of the AI.

Benefits

Bar codes allow you to use scanners and other reading devices to enter data into the system. This reduces operation time for task execution and verifies all data input, guaranteeing the accuracy of transaction data.

Select the check box if the bar code type is available for use. Clear the check box if the bar code type is not available for use.

Application Identifier:

• 01 Global trade item number
• 10 Identified stock
• 21 Serial number
• 30 Quantity (each)
• 402 Delivery note
• 91 Product ID
• 93 Logistics area
• 94 Logistics unit
• 95 Unit of measure
• 97 Label ID
• 98 Product specification

AIs appear as two or more digits at the beginning of a bar code element string. The AI uniquely defines the format and meaning of the data that follows.

Choose the global AIs provided by bar code standard UCC/EAN 128. AIs in the range 90-99 are reserved for use in your business. Specify AIs in this range for internal use or, by agreement with trading partners, for external use.

Description

A brief description of what the AI is identifying. This is globally defined by bar code standard UCC/EAN 128.

It is recommended that you do not change this description.

Variable Length

An indicator that the length of the AI is variable.

Select the check box if you want the length of the AI to be variable. A delimiter is used to determine the end of a variable-length AI. Clear the check box if you want to set a fixed length for the AI.

Fixed Length

The length of fixed AIs.

If you have chosen to fix the length of AIs, specify that length here.

Decimal Places

The number of decimal places you want to the right of the decimal point in the AI.

Specify the number of decimal places you want to the right of the decimal point in the AI. The number of decimal places is part of the AI length.

Thanks for your reply. Here i understand that we will be defining the length for AI's.

But after this we need to integrate scanners/mobile devices with Byd system. I couldn't get any idea regarding this integration with scanner devices. Please help us on the same.

Thanks for detailing.

My question is :

“When we select the task to Confirm in system, products are already listed in the tasks & one has to pickup the same.

When material is already specified (which one to pic up) what is the need of entering bar code?”

What I know is when out of 1000s SKU’s when product is selected randomly; there scanning bar code & picking correct product / SKU code is the requirement when one use Bar Code System…

Please enlighten me on this.
