Lumira 2.0 Designerr can't use csv file? How to related Designer with Discovery?

Hello experts.

I'm recently research the lumira 2.0,I have watched some video about lumira 2.0,which seems easy,and similar to old design studio. But when I initial the software,I found it have two .exe, Designer and Discovery. I can understant the Designer is for developer,Discovery is for end user. But,anyone can tell me how to merge both of them ,or how to make them related?

And the old design studio can use csv file as datasource, but the Designer of Lumira 2.0 can't use csv file? Is it just can use HANA/BW/Streaming Data Source?

Waiting for your help.

Thanks.

Jing

    Hi Jing,

    In order to use a CSV file in Designer, you should perform the following steps:

    1. Launch Discovery;

    2. Import a CSV file from the data source options to create an acquired data set. Perform any necessary data preparation;

    3. Save the Lumira document as a local document;

    4. Launch Designer;

    5. In the local documents folder, right-click on the document you saved in Step 3 and from the context menu select Create Application;

    6. Add a data source in the same way as you are used to in Design Studio but select "Offline Data Source". You will then be able to assign the embedded CSV acquired data source.

      Hi Mustafa.

      That's great.I will can't resolved it if without your guide.It's more complexity than old design studio,I can't experience well.Do you have any document to advise? I have read many document,but still haven't found detail document to tell me how to use Designer and Discovery.

      And I still have two question:

      1)when I create application in Designer,How can I use it in Discovery?

      2)The old design studio chart have follow types:column chart with 2 Y-Axes、100% stack chart with 2 Y-Axes or 2 X-Axes、combined column line chart with 2 Y-Axes 、stack line chart,and so on. Is Lumira 2.0 will lose it?

      Thanks.

      Jing.

    Hi Jing,

    Once you create a work on Discovery and save it; it's also available in Designer as well. This means, in Lumira Designer you can edit and enhance the charts, tables and any other components that were created in Lumira Discovery.

    The CSV files can not be imported directly into Designer. However, it's easier to import them in Discovery and then use in Designer compared to integration of files in Design Studio 1.x.

      Hi Erdem.

      Thanks for your reply.

      I've tried important CSV file to Discovery,but how can I use the CSV data source in Designer. I just can action like this:

      in Designer Document view,right clic "Local Documents",and select "Open Documents Folder",and then select .lumx file that I created in Disgovery. Am I wrong?

      By the way,do you have some resources about how to use Lumira 2.0 create DEMO? If I can't important CSV file into Designer,how can I create local demo?

      Thanks.

    I really would like to know why we can't import CSV, XLS files to Lumira Designer (best pratices?). I have some data that is not in my BW and I really need to have a systematic way to import it to my dashboard.

    • Hi Renan,

      You can import CSV and XLS files into a Lumira Designer application but you must do so by applying the Lumira Discovery interoperability feature I have outlined above. Alternatively, if you don't have Lumira Discovery, you could try creating a Universe on a CSV/XLS file and connecting to that.

      Since you have mentioned you need a "a systematic way to import", the best practice would be one of the following options:

      1) upload the XLS,CSV files into a supported relational database and create a Universe to feed a Designer data source, or

      2) upload the XLS/CSV files to BW and create BEx Queries to feed a Designer data source.

      If you really must blend CSV and BW data then Lumira Discovery is the intended tool for such a use case.

      Regards,

      Mustafa.
