Problem in updating Dialog instance kernel

Former Member
0 Kudos

Dear all,

I've a ECC 5 central instance runs on a sparc solaris machine, kernel version 175. The DB is oracle.

I tried to install a dialog instance on a win2k3 machine.

The installation was success, and the Dialog Instance can ran well. The kernel version of the DI is 43, so i want to update the kernel to version 175.

But when i tried to upgrade the kernel of the DI, it cannot start.

The error messsage is:

      • ERROR => platform patchno is 43 [dpxxdisp.c 14862]

      • ERROR => but my patchno is 175 [dpxxdisp.c 14863]

      • DP_FATAL_ERROR => Release inconsistent with running system

      • DISPATCHER EMERGENCY SHUTDOWN ***

It seem like the system still stuck with the old kernel. Please help me to solve this problem.

Below is the complete log from dev_disp.

Thanks a lot,

Fendhy.

There are two reasons that cause this kind of issue:

1. An attempt is made to start two instances with the same operating

system but a different kernel patch.

2. Kernels are exchanged on one or several instances with an operating

system that differs from the one of the central instance without

restarting the central instance.

In your case, it might be the second one. I write down the solutions

for both cases anyway:

for 1. Upgrade the kernel to the same patch level on all R/3 system

instances with the same operating system.

for 2. The following alternatives are available:

a) Restart the system to have the message server determine the new

patch level automatically.

b) Enter the new patch number in the message server status area

which previously contained the old patch level:

- Transaction SMLG

- Goto -> System Diagnosis -> Message server status area

- Enter new patch level.

This should solve the issue.

Thanks,

the problem is solved.. thanks a lot.

actually i already restarted the message server before i post this thread but still no work.

but i try your second idea about changing manually from SMLG and its works

Hi,

For this type of error:

      • ERROR => platform patchno is 43 [dpxxdisp.c 14862]

      • ERROR => but my patchno is 175 [dpxxdisp.c 14863]

      • DP_FATAL_ERROR => Release inconsistent with running system

      • DISPATCHER EMERGENCY SHUTDOWN ***

It means that you don't have same kernel patch level across all the instances.

As a rule, ALL instances (also the ones with different

operating systems) must have the same patch level to avoid severe system

crashes. For this reason, the error should be corrected by the same

kernel patch level across all instances.

Solution:

Upgrade the kernel to the same patch level on all R/3 system

instances with the same operating system.

cheers,

Vincent

I already upgraded the kernel in the CI and in the DI.

I dont know why it still stuck with the old kernel.

Maybe do a cleanipc and reboot all the involved system.

show me your kernel information on CI and DI

hi vincent

thx for replying,

what do you mean with cleanipc and kernel information? can you explain more..

actually i already reboot all the instance, but still no help.

actually i'm just a newbie on sap.

Hello,

Please check u have downloaded the DB+Dispatcher of the 175 kernel patch and also brtool path level 175.

Please try to copy the entier run folder from CI to replace the DI.

Hello,

I downloaded the SAPEXE and SAPEXEDB version 175. Then i extracted them into the kernel folder in the CI. Should i download another files?

In the CI, the kernel are located in folder \sapmnt\<SID>\SYS\exe\nuc\NtI386

when i started the DI using sapmmc, sapcpe.exe ran and copied the kernel from the CI to the DI. In the DI, kernel are located in folder E:\usr\sap\<SID>\D01\exe

Correct me if i did a wrong procedure..

thanks,

Fendhy
