Top N Variable Selection

I am using WAD to publish a query on our intranet. Within the query are conditions on all of the key figures for Top N. The Top N variable is defaulted to 20, however, I would like the users to be able to change this when they want to. I know this could be done through having a button to bring up the variable selection screen. The twist is that I only want the users to see Top N in the selection screen and none of the other variables.

Is there a way to either:

1. Get the Top N formula variable to appear in a drop down box on the template

OR

2. Have the selection screen only show the Top N variable entry when the user clicks on the display variable screen button.

Please respond even if this cannot be done so at least I know that I should stop trying.
