Program Progression is an out-dated process, and should not be used, as SAP is no longer making any enhancements to it. You should exclusively use Program Type Progression.

You can actually execute this directly from the Student File for an individual student, if that helps you with your setup and testing. There is a tab for 'Program Type Progression'.

You of course need to set up valid values for your various Progression Categories in the IMG. You actually set up the Academic Distinctions in the same place where you define your program types. Campus Management -> CM Processes -> Program Type Progression -> Create Program Types.

Also, Progression is rules-based, and in order for there to be any intelligence to the process, you would need to set up Progressions 'Substitution' rules in the VSR framework. If you are not familiar with that framework yet, I think you will need some major help to do that.

Ankita,

Progression is perhaps one of the most complicated and involved processes in Student Lifecycle Management (the others being Tuition Calculation, Degree Audit, and Automated Admissions). If you are just starting with the product, you have chosen an item that has quite a steep learning curve. In order to really make use of it, you need to have set up your Performance Indices and you need to understand how to write VSR Substitution rules.

That being said, you can set up some valid Progression values for Academic Honors, Academic Standing, Progress Classifications, etc. When you run Program Type Progression from the Student File, you will get the list of values you can manually assign.

As long as you have assigned Progression Categories to your Program Type in the IMG (done where you create the Program Type), and you have created valid values for each of those Progression Categories, you should not get any error. In the IMG screen where you create Program Types, make sure you select your Program Type and open each folder on the 'left-hand' side of the screen. Make sure you have created valid entries for each folder.

Good luck!

Michael

P.S. As I stated in another post, progression is not 'necessary' to perform for the other academic processes.
