How to fix 'BUG: Soft lockup - CPU#0....' error

I have recently installed SAP HANA Express edition as per the installation guide instructions. I have 16GB RAM on my desktop and I am using VMWare player to run the SAP HANA Express Edition. I have installed SAP HANA Studio and added the SAP HANA express edition as system. Everything seems to be fine except after 10-15 min, I get the messages like ' BUG: Soft lockup - CPU#0...'. The system will become almost unresponsive. Can't do anything after that. Please can anyone suggest how to resolve this issue.

Hi Birendra - a colleague of mine pointed me to the following note - you may find it helpful for the error you're receiving.

Hello Birendra - can you provide some details on your machine configuration including memory allocated to your VM. Wondering if you're running into low memory issues.

Thanks, However the SAP note instructions is not very helpful. My installation says "SUSE Linux Enterprise Server for SAP Applications 12 SP1 (x86_64) - Kernel 3.12.49-11-de which seems to be higher than the one in the note.

Could you please elaborate how to proceed on this.

Hi, I was having the same issue with the same version (HANA 2 Express VM). Applying the latest SLES 12 updates didn't help. I reduced the number of cores, and since then, it don'ts happen. We will have to wait for answer patch I guess...

Reducing the number of cores seems to be the only workaround for now...
