Regarding set up of system landscape

We want to have only a 2 system landscape for our SAP deployment i.e. Within the development server, we shall have development client and quality client and then just have another production server.

Since we have confirmed that this is possible, please let me know the disadvantages in doing so and also if we need to anticipate for trouble shooting.

Thanks & regards,

Tommy.

    Hello,

    The Advantages are :

    (1) U do not need to invest much more in the hardware in the starting phase of SAP implementation.

    (2) you can create the virtual system for transport testing.....and will check u r transport configurations....

    The Disadvantages are :

(1)u r not able to find out the correct sizing of the hardware configuration when u want to switch to QA server ......

    (2) you have to maintain a two instance in the same server....which requries high server configuration....

    (3) the development and QA testing will be performed on the same server so it is very difficult to manage...

so it is always advisable to go with atleast three system landscpae if money if not a constrain.

    Regards,

    Hi ,

Having DEV & QA as two cleints in same server is possible but the development objects are client independent. So while you may be carrying out testing in QA client and someone carries out any changes in dev client, it can jeopardize the testing/business process.

So in order to maintain the sanctity of quality, its always recommended to have a three system landscape.

    Ashish

    HI,

1.Small and simple R/3 installation for up to 50 users and 2-system might beadequetly administrated with 2 system managers doing most of the tasks and external resources for occasional help.

2.A Two system landscape is not optimal because development and quality assurance testing both occur in the development system.since no separate quality assurance system is available, all objects transported to the consolidation system immediately become part of production.

    Mainly Disadvantages:

    1. Development quality assurance are perfomed in the same R/3 system.

    2. Unable to fully test Repository objects and cross client customizing before these are transported to production.

    3. No verification of transports before delivery to production.

    Feel free to revert back.

Please provide points if u get the answer.
