Moving goods from legacy manufacturing systems to sap system

Hi All,

we have Manufacturing plant in legacy system and distribution plant in SAP system, both are in same entity(same company), what is the best way we can move goods which are 200 to 300 Miles away. Is there anyway we can transfer the stock without hitting GR/IR account?

if you have plants of the same company in SAP and outside SAP then you have a normal purchase process in SAP, which also requires a vendor account and a GR/IR posting.

There are no stock transfer scenarios for this type of business, any STO scenario reduces in-transit stock while doing a receipt, which is created with a goods issue in the shipping plant. As your shipping plant is not in SAP you will not have stock in-transit, hence you can't use such a scenario.

Lets start with something very simple, e.g. buying a raw material, is this done in the legacy system? From which system is the the invoice paid? Where is the inventory value? And how is it reduced in legacy?

Buying the raw material, mfg and invoice paid in legacy system. Once goods are manufactured, now we need move from legacy to new SAP system. Question is, now we need to reduce the inventory in legacy and up in commercial system- best possible ways. so far MFG and Sales in same system, there was no accounting issue my friend, based on the goods movement process finance needs to consolidate accounts.

Moving goods from legacy manufacturing system to SAP systems

You have legacy manufacturing plants- You need to create new plants in SAP system and handle all activity with a "Rollout" Project. While uploading stock initially- NO GR/IR account updated.

As your legacy plants located 300 miles away- now its depend on business to decide

    1. Are legacy plant to be created as plant in SAP system

2.Enter legacy plants purchased and you want to transfer all stock to dismantle all facilities!

300miles is a good physical locations difference- where you may have different states or regions with reference to your original plant/office, probably tax structures are difference.

Either create a new plant and do STO(intra) from new plant to old plant OR create vendor code for legacy manufacturing plant (with a vendor account group of inter company corporate group) to purchase all materials but in this case GR/IR clearing account will be updated.

      Hi Bijay,

Thank you for your response, our legacy manufacturing plants keep their manufacturing activity. Once goods are manufactured(FERT) moved to DCs(SAP). This is everyday activity going forward. Both are in same company and my finance do not want to do PO/SO process. what is the best way to move the goods from MFG plant(Legacy) to DC(SAP).

Hi Both the experts Jurgen And Bijay has already explained the pros and cons and asked the partinent questions.

It looks like you are rolling out in phased manner,so building temporary interface(for goods movement replication) for the temporary period ,till P2P cycle is completely run on SAP is the approach to adopt. I wonder why it is not yet done, and how you are doing these daily activty till date.

You need to explain step wise what all are happening in legacy ,what all are happening in SAP and finally how your inventory is updated for book keeping.

We are implementing SAP for commercial operation only, it holds distribution centers and Sales. It holds DC plants only.

currently we have 2 SAP instances and one non SAP system, we have multiple manufacturing plants both in SAP and non SAP systems. currently respective systems hold DC and sales, so no issues so far. Now we are moving all DCs and sales to new SAP system. My questions is, what is the best possible way to move the goods from SAP/Non-SAP manufacturing systems to new SAP commercial system. Process is, based on the production, each manufacturing plant ship goods to DCs, one shipment or multiple shipments in a day. Hope this give you better picture..
