Hi Sridevi,
I think this problem remains unanswered.
The issue behind this problem is, during parellel activation the child jobs acknowledge the parent job about status. If the child job takes long time to read data from active data table, then it times out and fails.
Check the primary index on Active data table and it should be missing in your case. See the se11 index or db02 missing indexes. That is the reason that causes time out. Rebuild the primary index by asking your basis folks and repeat the activation. It should succeed.
Thanks,
Sri.

Hi Sridevi,
If you are using Process Chain
in that case go to the process type = "Activate datastore data" -->maintain variant --->Hit " Parallel Processing " button change it to "BACKGROUND process, select" parallel generators "option
Number of processes = 3
For
1)DS-Activation
2)DS-Sid generation
Above activity must be done separately for every single ODS you have. You can play around with the number of processes to increase of decrease depending on the resources you have -you can check that in SM50/SM51.
In case u r not using a process chain and activating the data manually, then execute RSODSO_SETTINGS transaction (RSCUSTA2 in BW3.5) and give your ODS technical name. Select 1st Radio Button against Change Runtime Parameter and execute. There r 3 settings which u can change. Select each one and individually change the number of work processes depending on available DIA processes (SM50).U can also set Maximum Package Size and Maximum Wait Time for Process.
Some Sanity Checks for ODS activation problems -
1) Transaction RSRV, check the activation program for the ODS if get Red, then correct it and try the activation again.
RSRV>All elementary Test>ODS Objects-->
"Check the status of the Generated Program of a datastore object" drop on the right, inset you ODS technical name, press execute. if error occurs, then press correct error.
Now continue activation of the ODS requests
2) RSKC- Allow special characters can use ALL_CAPITAL
3) Se38-->RSDMD_CHECKPRG_ALL can use this program for checking the characteristics Infoobject consistency.
4) Make sure you have loaded Master data infoobject loaded before transaction data and that Attribute/Hierarchy change run carried out

Any help on this would be highly appreciated.
