master data with 'Valid From' field 01/01/1000

why is it that time dependent master data have data records with "Valid From" field value as 01/01/1000 and other fields values are blank -but this kind of record is not existing in the sourcesystem.

So it is generated by BW ?

Can we try to avoid this type of records & just have valid records from sourcesystem coming & existing in BW ?

thanks in advance for the help.

Hi Chris,

just a bit more:

In order to have a valid value at all times, a initial entry for a value in a characteristic will be made with a time slice starting at 10000101 and ending at 99991231. Once you load existing r/3 data to it e.g. a record starting at 20060101 and ending at 20070831 the system will make a update to the master data as follows and as a result you will have 3 master data records:

1st initial record from 10000101 to 20051231

2nd loaded record from 20060101 to 20070831 and

3rd initial record from 20070901 to 99991231.

This is done automatically and the only reason for it is to have a valid value at all 'valid' dates.

kind regards

Siggi

Hi Chris,

Time dependency, as of now, is implemented in BW only.

The "Valid TO" can be filled when you create a new record.

For example:

As of 31-july-2007.....Valid_From=01/01/1000....Valid_To=blank (OR it could be 99/99/9999)

A new record was inserted on 1-Aug-2007

Then:

Record1.....Valid_From=01/01/1000....Valid_To=31-07-2007

Record2.....Valid_From=01/08/2007....Valid_To=blank OR 99/99/9999

If you do not need the Time Dependency information.......

1) Delete the master data

2) Change the InfoObject to make it NON Time Dependent.

3) load the master data again.
