EP5 to EP7 Upgradation

Hi,

I need to Upgrade from EP5 to EP7 version. I am aware that we need to have a seperate server with a fresh installation of EP7 and migrate the contents from EP5 to EP7 server.

I am not able to see any guide for the same. I could just find EP5 to NW04 only, on market place.

I also came across a tool called 'Migration Tool' which is available as a file on Market Place. How can this be of any help to me.

Hi Gandolf,

it's normal that you did not find any guide for EP5 to EP7, because you can't do that. It is not supported by SAP.

You need to install a new EP6 NW04 server, then migrate your EP5 to that EP6 NW04 server.

After that, upgrade the EP6 NW04 to EP7.

I did that last year but from EP6 SP2.

Oh My God.. This is a bit complicated case. Thanks for the Info Brad. I was able to refer migration from EP6 to EP7 in most the other threads you have answered.

I have one basic question - what is the difference between EP6 SP2 and EP6 NW04. I am not clear with the versions. I was under the assumption that we always install WAS 6.40 server and over that install EP6 with varying SP levels.

One more question - Can I have EP 7 over WAS 6.40 Server ?

Your answers would help me in making myself clear with the basics.

Hi Gandolf,

EP6 SP2 = WAS 6.20

EP6 SP2 is not supported anymore since decembre 2006 (not sure).

EP6 NW04 = WAS 6.40

EP7 (Netweaver 7.0 aka 2004s) = WAS 7.00.

You can't run EP7 on WAS 6.40.
