Is it possible to create a Multi tenant application(SaaS) in Cloud via SAP Web IDE and SAP UI5?

Hi,

We have a requirement to create a multi tenant application(SaaS) in SAP cloud platform. I am new to this and was doing the research on this topic and have found some blogs and tutorials for same. But most of them use the Eclipse IDE and Java based applications. I couldn't see any blogs or documents which explain creating such application using SAP Web IDE. Is the multi tenant application development limited to Eclipse IDE?
We have UI5 developers here and we intend to develop this multi tenant application with SAP UI5 via SAP Web IDE. Is that possible? Also if any one has any useful links or documents regarding this kindly share with me.

Thanks,

Johann

    Hi Johann,

Generally speaking, a multi-tenant application is the one that you are able to subscribe to. Therefore the way you use the tenant is through the sub-account. Thus, a sub-account (tenant) will contain a subscription to an application provided by another account.

However, you must be able to do the same segmentation at the services layer for your html5 application. In a Neo environment, you have the possibility to use a HANA database in MDC mode - thus your data could be retrieved by the same concept. However, you should be able to map the database tenant with your subscribed application context (tenant). IMHO this would be very hard to manage since you would want a single database (on the provider account) and a single service layer for odata services consumed by your subscribed html5 application.

If you think about developing the UI and the service layer in a single JAVA application you could use the application context API (tenant). Thus, you would have a single database and a single java application. All you would require is to subscribe to the java application. The database will handle the data segmentation by using a tenant ID inside the database records.
