lo, co-pa extrations

hi all,

while doing lo or co-pa extrations, while assigning dimentions to info cube, if i have more than 40 infor cubes to be assigned to 13 dimentions. so i can assign multile characterstics to each cube. i have two doubts regarding this.

1) if dimension size is over 10% of the cube i should create a line item dimention on performance maintanance basis, but i cannot create a line item dim cause the dim has more than 1 characterstic.

so how do i know what characterstis are the ones that take up space and needs to be maintained as a line item diemntion, when there are more than 40 to 60 characterstics. any help will be appreciate.

thank you,

george

Hi george,

1) Since you are loading the data you would have to have an idea on how many unique

values of a CHAR in a dimension has multiple rows in the fact table.

2) based on each CHAR you would decide whether it is a line item DIM or not.

Look at the link for details:

Good luck, BB

Hi,

you go for line item dimension in the case when you have siomething like document number in your case it will CO_PA doc or sales doc which comes from copa or billing doc this all should be assigned to separate dimensions and made line dimension as there number will be huge and will have data unique to them that is each billing odc will have a unique values and will cause increase in space of dim table......so why nor kkep them separate so it willresult in less number of records. and infact you can make all the 13 dimension as line item.... no issues with that.

it has nothing to do with the length of the char it is do with the size of the dimension tables....

you can go to SAP_INFOCUBE_DESIGNS program and give your cube name and check which dimension is occupying how much space and depending upon that you can redesign by ressigning char to dimensions....basically all the dimension having wrong assignemnts will show up in red.

you can assign pnly one char to a line itme dimension.

there are many links on line item dimension and scenarion they should be used on forum.

Thanks
