Auto generation of Project definition

Hi,

My Client wants the project definition shud be generated by the system with out prompting for next open number.

i.e. for ex. Our coding mask is : P1-00000-X-X-XX-XX-XX-XX.

Once the user enters the P1 in Project Definition field, system shud take the next open number, like P1-00004 (In case if P1-00003 is already created).

Can anybody share how can it be done?

This can be addressed through validation. Please check the validation details in Customization.

I think this can be done by customising the codes in transaction cj20n... check with the abaper..
