Dear all,

Is it possible for MDM to log previous versions of master data and roll back to previous versions if necessary?

Thanks + Best Regards

Jerome

To the best of my knowledge, you can archive the entire catalog and retrieve it back.

While archiving it you should be able to specify whether you would like to do it with Data or without.

Dear all,

In addition to the archiving method, is it possible to keep the versions inside MDM?

Hi Jerome,

There is a "change tracking" feature, but it is not possible to do rollbacks (at least out of the box, see below). Its main purpose is to find out who did what change - and when. Basically, when you log every change (which could degrate performance), you could read this data and perform a rollback. But you'd have to write such an application yourself, and make sure that no other application has access to the repository during rollback.

In addition, only content changes are recorded, changes to the data model will be a problem.

So far, archiving the repository seems to be the best way...

Kind regards,

Some additional thoughts:

1. It should suffice to backup the database tables that belong to the repository.

2. You could create a slave repository and perform a synchronization at certain time points.

These solutions sound sub-optimal, but maybe they fit your situation...

Hi,

I do'nt think that SAP MDM provides the facility to roll-back to older versions of data. Plz note that just like DBMS, MDM also stores transactional master data and not historical data as a Data Warehouse.

Keeping an archiving is the best way as of now to store your earlier master data versions and move to this version.
