Actual cost can be taken only for past periods. Only when you produce, can you get to know the actual cost of production. Till you produce, you can only estimate. Material ledger deals with actual costing, where in, the variances are captured and redistributed to cost of goods sold and the ending inventory.

Technically, Cost <b>'Estimates'</b> are primarily driven by the costing variant. You can control through valuation variant, what prices to be considiered for activities and materials in the valuation variant. If the information is available, then you can take the actual activity price for activities and moving average price for the materials, these are likely to be closer to the actual cost.
