Statistical forecast question

Regarding Stat Forecasts......Where does the calculation of the statistical forecast actually run? And the historical data that APO uses as the basis for the stat forecast, where does that lie? From what I understand the historical data is actually in the planning area, and therefore livecache. But the macro to then create a stat forecast, does that just run in the background on the APO server?

I agree with your suggestion, but instead of backing up in infocubes, we backup the data in cubes in our data warehouse. I just wanted to confirm that we can use the historical data in the planning books (livecache) to run our stat forecast against? You said Yes correct?

Suresh, thanks that did help but I need some clarification on something. I currently have a solution where I don't bring sales history into an infocube in APO-BW. I have my sales history in a 3rd party data warehouse, and I load the data straight into APO LiveCache, bypassing the APO-BW steps. So if the data is already in Livecache, can I use that to run my stat forecast algorithms?

I thought this is how it worked, if historical data is already in a planning book, the stat forecast job will simply read that data and create a forecast.

Am I correct?

With the new functionality of SCM 5.0 you can upload the historical data and then based on the historical data that u have uploaded it will help you in generating the stat forecast.

But if i may suggest always try to get the historical data into an infocube. that way your data is safe. also even if you are getting the data from a 3rd party you can format it to fit the .csv format and then upload it into the infocube.

Hello David -

All the calculations for the forecast run depends on the forecast model that you chose. based on your choice calculations will be performed in background and the stat forecast keyfigure will be populated.

about the historical data, it comes from the infocube as you are uploading the historical data into the infocube. your planning results are stored in livecache for easy access.

normally or best practise is that : current planning results are stored in live cache and the previous forecasts are moved to infocubes for storage purpose as well as to generate reports depending on the requirements of the business.
