How is statistical account different from other GL accounts?

On the cost centre report S_ALR_87013611 I see some accounts in the statistical accounts section of the report. How statistical accounts are different to other accounts? Is it possible to re-classify a statistical account to become a normal GL? If so, how to do it?statistical-accounts.jpg
